The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden, Sky Avenue Genting Highlands

Just on here again because I realized how doom and gloom I sounded on the last post, and wanted visual, solid proof that much of my being is really exuberance!

How many times have I opened and started a blog post draft then left it half-formed and aborted the whole thing? Too many, I think. I have been in a strange mood and there are reasons why but they are not reasons i can really put a finger on, not coherently or right now anyway. Will this attempt make it to published status? Who knows. It’s just a blogpost, I think to myself, lighten up.

In this post, I’m going to talk about fish and chips from London. This is probably one of the few dishes that I grew up with and also, a dish that is fit for any occasion.

Taking up a humble spot on the forth floor of Sky Avenue (High Line – Asian Bar Street), The Laughing Fish is an eatery dedicated to all things fish. Just as its name suggests, fish and chips is one of their specialties and it would be silly not to order it while you are there.

For those of you who are looking for a wallet-friendly restaurant that still provides quality food up on hill, this is the right place. Keeping its fusion Western delights affordable and consistent, this casual dining restaurant has definitely found its way to keep its customers going back for more.

If you are looking for something filling, try their Fish And Chips With Curry Sauce that comes with a generous portion of fish that is crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside.

The codfish came with a large serving of chips as well as a side of tartar sauce, and what’s interesting is that they also have a small bowl of curry gravy by the side. Deep-fried till a beautiful golden-brown, the batter was wonderfully crunchy.

The restaurant is warm and welcoming. How do I say this lightly? Everything was good. I thought perhaps I might just be one of those very easily impressed people but my own feelings were reflected in my friends’ stuffed faces and in that, I find validation and comfort. In other word, EXCELLENT!

That’s all I really had to say about this place, I’m really just documenting this meal here because many people wrote to me on Instagram to ask about it after I featured the meal on my Instagram stories. It was a good meal for me and I would definitely go back.

I will say one thing about the place, to end off this post. How on earth do they cook the outside of the cutlet to such great crispness while leaving the cod decently flaky and succulent.

Unlike the usual dory fish used by hawkers and restaurants for their fish and chips, The Laughing Fish offers fish such as cod and haddock, just like those used in traditional British fish and chips.

I know I can probably find the answer pretty quickly by running a google search, but then some of the magic would be lost, methinks. Thus I continue to wonder occasionally about the perplexing complexities of culinary science, and life goes on.
